The Forest welcomes You

“The art of forest bathing is the art of connecting with nature through our senses”

– Dr Qing Li

Forest bathing (Shinri-yoku)

Shinri in Japanese means forest, yoku means bath. Hence, Shinri-yoku means bathing in the forest atmosphere or taking in the forest through our senses. It is not an exercise or hiking or jogging. It is simply being in nature, connection with it through our sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.

We are part of the natural world. Our rhythms are the rhythms of nature. As we walk slowly through the forest, seeing, listening, smelling, tasting and touching, we bring our rhythms into step with nature.

By opening our senses, it bridges the gap between us and the natural world. And when we are in harmony with the natural world we can begin to heal.

Our nervous system reset itself, we are refreshed and restored. In connecting with nature shinrin-yoku takes us all the way home to our true selves.

Forest Bathing benefits

Immersing oneself in nature/forest has potential benefits:

Reduced stress: Sights, sounds, and smells of the forest can have a calming effect on the mind and body, helping to lower cortisol levels and promote relaxation.

Improved mental health: Being in nature promotes a sense of peace, tranquillity and connectedness. It has a positive impact on mental well-being.

Enhanced immune system function: Phytoncides, released by trees and plants, boost the activity of natural killer cells, increase anti-cancer proteins production in the body.

Improved sleep quality: The fresh air, peaceful surroundings and reduced exposure to artificial light can help regulate sleep patterns and promote more restful sleep.

Lowered blood pressure and heart rate: The relaxation induced by the natural environment can help lower stress-related cardiovascular strain and contribute to better heart health.

Enhanced cognitive function: Nature’s restorative effect on the brain can help alleviate mental fatigue, enhance focus and creativity.

Guide Story

Thank you for being here. I am Linda Koh, a US Certified Guide by Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT).

My forest story journey began when I was a little girl. Always fond of being in nature, climbing trees and resting on grassland.

When I entered the workforce, I was out of touch with nature and earning money consumed my life – eventually my health deteriorated and I was disheartened.

I felt that by being back in nature, I was able to feel peace and one-ness with nature.

I would like to invite you to join me in this journey to pause and immerse yourself in this sensory experience of forest bathing.
